Subject: Important Update re: Response to H1N1 Flu in Schools/Childcare
facilities
The following notice is being distributed widely to educational, childcare
and public health partners using the NYSDOH Health Commerce Notification
System.
*************************
This is an important update to the joint NYS Departments of Health and
Education guidance distributed May 1, 2009 regarding the response to novel
H1N1 influenza virus infections in educational and childcare facilities.
This afternoon, May 5, 2009, the CDC issued updated interim guidance
regarding school closures. This guidance can be found on the CDC H1N1 Flu
(Swine Flu) webpage under "Guidance" and is also attached.
As you know, this is a rapidly evolving situation and guidance is expected
to change to reflect the latest information available to us. We will be
developing specific materials to assist in the implementation of this new
guidance.
We continue to emphasize that decisions related to measures taken in
response to novel H1N1 influenza remain at the discretion of local education
and health officials, taking into account the specific needs of the
community.
Thank you.
