Please consider participating in this CALL-IN day, when all child advocates are asked to call the White House to reinforce the crucial importance of our country investing in quality care for children. All elected officials must think about early care and learning in a different way. We can educate them that in this day and age, child care is NOT just a part of social services...it is every bit a part of the infrastructure of our economy as roads, bridges, water and energy! It is important that everyone be aware of the research that indicates that 85% of a child's intellect and personality are developed before the age of 5 yrs. The Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) is the federal source of subsidy funds that comes to each state. As we know, this funding is crucial to working parents. To keep USA working, we need to invest in quality early care and learning aka child care!
Please share with parents, friends, colleagues.

The number to call is 202-456-1111. I tried several times before I was successful. I was put on hold ...they also say that you can leave comments by going to www.whitehouse.gov<http://www.whitehouse.gov> and clicking on "contact us" in upper right hand corner of page. The fact that it takes so long to get to an operator just shows the vast number of child advocates across the US. and it means we have been successful in getting the word out....

Happy holidays to all
Lorraine

Call the White House about
FY2013 today!

While it's hard to believe that just as Congress wraps up final action on spending for FY2012, we need your action with regard to FY2013 funding! But, we do. This is the time of year that federal agencies work with the President to determine funding proposals for the next fiscal year (the budget that the President proposes in February). So, while the ink is not yet dry on the FY2012 measure, it is time to weigh in on funding for next year.

Today, Monday December 19, child care advocates around the country are participating in a "call-in" day to urge the White House to increase funding for child care in next year's budget. There are so many competing programs and many compelling purposes vying for federal funds. Let the President's staff know that early childhood investments should be a priority, particularly child care!

TODAY, Monday December 19, call the White House Comment Line at 202-456-1111!

When you reach the comment line, please say:

  *   Your name
  *   Where you are from
  * Your organizational affiliations, if any
  * Please tell the President to preserve, support, and strengthen early childhood investments including child care, Head Start, and Early Head Start, Section 619 and Part C, and the Early Learning Challenge as he works on his FY 2013 budget. In a time of economic fragility, supports like early childhood give children a strong start and help their parents go back to work.
Your voice counts - please call the White House today at 202-456-1111. Calling only takes a few minutes, but it's an extraordinarily important way to help the teachers, staff, children, and families that count on CCDBG.

Thank you for taking action today. We'll keep you updated as the budget process moves forward.

Sincerely,

Jessica Klos Shapiro
