Dear Partners, 

 

You may or may not be aware of the fact that NYS is going to apply for an
Early Learning Challenge Grant but they are and if NYS is funded, it will
infuse Millions of dollars into the early care and learning sector. We have
an opportunity to show our support of this effort and that is why I am
writing to you. 

Below,  you will see the message we received regarding letters from parents.
You are the best "on the ground folks" to make this happen. Will you please
share the attached information with your friends, constituents, and
families? To date, there are very few that have arrived so will you please
consider writing one yourself and elicit at least one other to send one? If
you want to send it electronically, you can send it to Marsha Basloe and she
will make sure it gets to the Gov ofc. Marsha Basloe'e email is

you a link to the announcement or you can call Marsha...her ph # is

Make sure you indicate your name, address title and affiliation, especially
if you are writing as a parent!! If you have access to many parents in your
program, perhaps you can draft one letter and ask many parents to sign on to
it. (This probably isnt as effective as individual letters but with
everyone's busy schedule, it may be one way to ensure it gets done, right?) 

 

As you will see in the attached, there is a letter to use with parents and
talking points for parents based on the primary components of the ELCG.
(Needless to say, the talking points might be used for other audiences as
well!) 

 

Letters are due to the Governor's office no later than October 7, 2011. It
would be great to have them done as soon as possible.

A critical part of a strong Early Learning Challenge Grant application will
be the inclusion of letters of support from parents. We are writing to you,
our member agencies and organizations in the ECAC, to ask you to contact
those parents who sit on boards, advisory groups or otherwise play a role in
your organization to solicit a letter of support from them. It could take
the form of an individual letter or a sign-on letter/petition. Time is of
the essence, as these letters need to be received at the Governor's office
no later than Friday, October 7th.

 

I have attached a sample letter your organization can use to garner parent
support and a list of instructions that may be helpful to parents in
crafting their letters. Please contact me if you have any questions or
concerns.
