Below is some information that was forwarded to us for our newsletter but sadly, it is already printed so am sending this along via our listserv. If you know about Colleen Bennett and her KEYS program you know that it is a very worthwhile cause (they provide services to children who have cancer using music, therapy and huggable bears) If you are looking to teach the children in your program about compassion and charity, maybe you might consider starting a project at your child care facility collecting teddy bears to go to these children in hospitals~ you can check out the KEYS program at their website. http://www.thekeysprogram.org/index/
You will be getting your newsletter soon.
Be well

We are seeking donations of NEW Teddy Bears to include in our music therapy care packages that we give away to kids with cancer, and serious illnesses, in children's hospitals, camps and special needs sites. We also are asking schools, day care sites and kids organizations to put out "Coin Jars" so kids can collect coins for our KEYS kids. The KEYS Program's Fall Workshops, Trainings and Concerts: The KEYS Program's award-winning staff has been providing educational and inspirational workshops for early childhood centers, special needs sites, medical centers and at conferences throughout the US for more than 18 years. KEYS is an approved NYS training organization so teachers, directors and staff receive training hours for attending our workshops. Some of the workshops KEYS is offering this Fall are:

YFREE! Music & Wellness Workshop: Did you know research shows that music releases endorphins in the brain that improve our mood, behavior and make us feel happy? Music helps to lower blood pressure, helps people heal faster, and moving to music helps to keep us physically fit. For those who work with children, music helps with pain management, re-directing, behavior/stress management and early reading and math skills. According to recent studies, stress is the #1 cause of illness in the US and is believed to be the cause of up to 90% of all doctor visits each year. Research by Virginia Tech found children are showing higher rates of stress at a younger age than ever before. Studies show that financial worries are the #1 cause of stress for most families. This interactive workshop raises awareness of the benefits of music, provides lots of music therapy examples and activities each person can easily implement in their own life and the life of the children they serve, and provides basic financial information that will leave each attendee feeling empowered. This workshop is FREE! Topics 1,3 & 5

YWhat Every Teacher Should Know About Music: Did you know that incorporating music in your child's life on a regular basis can increase their SAT scores by an average 88 points! Host this 1 hour workshop and learn about music's effect on brain, motor and cognitive development! LOTS of songs and activities included too! Cost is $150. Topics 1 & 3

YMaking Music with Mrs G Glef and Friends! Host a concert at YOUR site and all staff who participate will receive additional "hands-on" training! Our award-winning musicians will have your kids singing, dancing and having a blast while learning some great musical skills! Best audience is kids 3 -8 years old, but younger and older kids are welcome too! Concerts available at your site during the day or in the evening. Concerts are 45 minutes with a 15 minute Q & A session for staff. (Total 1 training hour of credit) Cost is $150. Topics 1 & 3

YNEW in Fall 2012! Fire Safety Training: KEYS has partnered with nationally certified firefighters to provide a fun and informative fire safety workshop that will include important fire safety statistics, tips and fun activities for kids in your early childhood program.
