Dr. Sid Gilford has 20 years experience with ECE and nonprofits; 10 years in adminstration. He started his career as an assistant teacher and later became director of staff development, training, and onsite monitoring for a southern California Head Start program with 550 staff that served 4,600 children and families at multiple sites. Among other achievements, he served on the California Child Development Permit and Matrix Review Committee, was a DHHS federal grant reviewer, and directed an Early Head Start program in Philadelphia that was selected as a national showcase model. Dr. Gilford is a consultant to ECE and nonprofit programs, adjunct faculty at a college outside Philadelphia and conducts workshops at state and national ECE conferences. The information in this webinar is based on his recent book “Learning from Head Start, A Teacher's Guide to School Readiness<http://go.hatchearlylearning.com/CBy00n0Sv0BG087w4503D00>” (Rowman & Littlefield Education, 2013).

In defining school readiness, it is not unusual to find discrepancies in definitions and applications...research is still being conducted, and as a result there has yet to be a consensus regarding a definition, applications, outcomes, and what works.
