While this distribution event (highlighted below and attached) is scheduled for the Capital District, it sounds like there is an opportunity to sign up to be on the First Book mailing list if you respond today.
Please see the notice from Janice Molnar at OCFS below.
Lorraine
I am writing for two reasons:
1. I'm not sure if you're familiar with "First Book," which is a nonprofit organization that makes free or extremely low-cost books to children of all ages. First Book will be traveling to upstate NY the week of May 11th to host a book distribution. I thought you may be interested in this opportunity and was wondering if you might know anyone who would be interested in volunteering. These distributions - of approximately 400-500,000 books in a matter of days - are incredible undertakings, so the First Book team is highly reliant on recruiting local volunteer support from friends, partners, businesses, etc. First Book would greatly appreciate any help you can offer in spreading the word! If you think of anyone who might be interested (either personally or as an office volunteer activity), their volunteer flyer is attached.
2. Also, if you or others know of any programs (including programs from elsewhere around the state, not just the Capital District) that would be interested in applying for books from this distribution, please encourage them to sign up with First Book by Monday (yes, a little last-minute, but if you get on the First Book mailing list, there will be other opportunities in the future). If anyone has any questions, they can contact the First Book Help Team at 866-READ-NOW or help at firstbook.org<mailto:help at firstbook.org>. The Help Team can assist them with registration, applying for books (as of Tuesday) and answer any questions about volunteering.
Thanks and I hope you can find folks to take advantage of this offer.
Best,
Janice
