<p><span style='font-size:10.0pt'>As you know we are working in concert with
Mohawk Valley Community College<br>
to offer credit bearing classes at our site so that returning adults will<br>
have access to a degree without the intimidation of going on campus. Those<br>
in the child care field are already comfortable coming here for workshops,<br>
classes and teleconferences so this is a pilot program that we hope will<br>
take off. The first MVCC Intro to Human Services class was held here in<br>
Oriskany last night (scheduled to run every Monday night Jan-May 6-8:45 PM).<br>
The instructor asked me to let folks know that he will take new registrants<br>
up to Feb 7 but not beyond that. The class is $360. (not sure of the cost of<br>
books)<br>
I also wanted to make sure that everyone knew that Workforce Investment<br>
Board (WIB) has funding available to contribute to the expense of the course<br>
for child care workers in Oneida Herkimer or Madison Counties. (The<br>
eligibility guideline for this special funding source is up to 500% of<br>
poverty...pretty good odds that all people in child care are under that)<br>
MVCC has agreed to wait for payment from EIP or WIB so there is no out of<br>
pocket expense to registrants. Everyone must apply for EIP first. For those<br>
who are eligible for 100% payment by EIP, WIB will pay for the books. For<br>
those eligible for 75% EIP, WIB will pay remaining 25% and books and for<br>
those ineligible for EIP, they will pay for entire course and books. This is<br>
an offer that doesn’t come along often so I wanted to make sure that you<br>
were aware so that you can pass along the information to those without a<br>
degree, because this is a very good start!<br>

registration, help with EIP application and access to WIB.<br>
